I've had a skinny one... now a cup of coffee.... and the next will be a fatty. :nerd:

Yeah, I so wished I had access to great weed.... I can get good weed pretty easily but great weed is hard to find here. Economics wise what does exist gets bought up by all the wealthy suburbanites who pay a $150/ per 1/4 and bid up the price.

So I buy in "good" flower in bulk and make my own oil. I press the primo buds into rosin and distill the nuggets and shake into high potency but limited-spectrum (less taste) oil. I'm experimenting right now with fractional distillations but have failed each try, and only ruined my yields, so I think I'm going to move to externally reintroducing terps. My recent batch is VERY potent, but near tasteless. :(

Not just the pose...the whole pic is a bit annoying to me.

Why, why, why when selling $350 devices do vape manf claw their way to some of the lowest class images that they could find. All tats (nothing wrong with tats but its become a cliche' for vape adverts), dirty finger nails, this pic with clothing from....oh, somewhere between 1969 and 1974, man buns, 2" fake nails, tie dyed, etc.

I'm just tired of the stereotypes.

If not that, then its a "life style of the young and beautiful" images.

I think these folks need to closely look at the demographics of their target market....then fire their fucking advert agency. hahaha

By the by, not sure what Kandy Pens was thinking in pricing a device so similar to the Carta but at $100 more. ???

I thought that too at first, but Kandy has a better distribution network and probably more current economies of scale. I could see a many of their pen users buying one on near impulse. I also suspect such things are "price inelastic" meaning profits are higher at higher prices and lower sales.

Zep just bought one and she be a smart vaporist !!

Implies there is diverse demand for such things. I think they look great. They are in the price point of the Peak, not Carta, but in terms of market demand Carta will have to be able to deliver the units to make a market dent. Puffco can. Don't know what the batch size will be with Kandy.

NO! You misunderstood....KANDYPENS is joining the club....now i’ll read on.
Yeah....I’d have to be nuts to buy a $350 evaper now with a Carta in my possession....and a Peak. I wonder how many more brands will join in. S&B?

Lol, then perhaps there isn't any demand, because I'll doubtfully buy one.

I am planning on getting the Rok when it is out.

    Is my home life complete?
On the left the outrageously expensive, “handle me with kid gloves or else” but thoroughly adaquate Puffco Peak with DIY carb cap leash l use only (atm) for concentrates (like I had a choice!?) And on the right, the versatile bargain FocusV Carta, having stolen not only the Peak’s much sought after travel pack’s tether but taken the title of best evaper yet. The pick stirs the weed in the dry herb atomizer attached to the Carta.tr8coje56dw22rzl.jpeg

Totally agree... where is the image of the over 50 year old male that has the disposable income to pay $350 for this knockoff of the Puffco Peak / Carta v2? :brow:
(Yes I know my pic isn't going to help sell any )

Puffco got lucky with the Peak, now everyone is going to try and jump on the bandwagon. Let the race begin! Should be fun to watch!

I could read you Econ stuff all day, very engrossing... but I think $350 is a bit much for your typical KandyPens consumer. I'm sure their logic was to price it just below the Peak to give the impression that it is on par with the Peak, yet better than the Carta.

A very good counterpoint. I was speaking theoretically, but your thought makes me consider my premise may be wrong? I assumed Kandy customers were "upscale"? I agree it is difficult to sell Lexus's to Toyota buyers. So if this is the case, then you're right.

Nate @VapePartsMart will be selling these I understand, so I am even more excited to try one.
I like the departure from the "upper glass" design towards a more traditional bong design.
Of course, the proof is in the dabbing. :nerd:

None of those companies are actually IN the industry like the people behind Focus V. This guy was doing hot dabs on an upside down CF-710 through a water pipe... that's fking hardcore dabs. You know how hot that thing runs on auto pilot? lol so you know why the pre-set temps are a little on the high side..

I sure will. I am fascinated by these devices, both as a stoner/user as well as from an economic perspective.

The demand for Puffco Peaks turned out to be strong. I suspect some exciting new entrants will emerge soon as they already are. I bought a peak and a new globe and a travel pack, so did my bus partner.... We both know the materials cost itself is small and therefore are fascinated by its margins thus far.

A wise statement worth reading about ten times.

I don't care if everyone buys one. Carta just needs to sell enough units at a high enough margin that he can sustain himself and reinvest profits into capital. He will eventually develop more scale as the popularity expands and the product becomes known.

Wow. Interesting tangent on this thread.

Well, advertising works. And "youthful" advertising really works on 50 year old men. Generally speaking, healthy and attractive looking young people with energy, produce better advertising results than ugly low-energy old people. It is the nature of marketing and advertising.

I do not think though it is only 50 year old men? As a prof, it seems near every stoner student has a expensive volcano, a top model phone, etc. They have more money than you think. And I have many a "poor" student with a more expensive car than me. The university I taught at in Texas before retiring had a mean-family-income of $325k. To put it in context, UT-Dallas, a state subsidised school, has a mean family income of about $60k. One student was only 17 and drove a brand new Corvette.... don't know about them that much, but I was told it is one of the aluminum engine ones that cost $150k.

There are millions of people in the country who have more money than they fully know what to do with, burning a hole in their pocket, and I as a businessman want some of it. I like these people because the cost of their time exceeds the value of abating cost, so they tend to buy and learn about it later. If they don't like it they trash it or give it away.... costs too much of their time to make selling worthwhile.

The point is here, folks have more money than might be expected.... just look at how many people here just "snap" a new product up when one comes out. Oh, and FYI, in polls, most americans define "rich" as a person who make more than $100k per year. To some people, that is poor.

I've noticed in life we perceive within our own prison walls (Plato's "shadow men). If you're a stoner, eventually it seems that everyone in the world consumes or should. If you are rich, so many other rich folks surround you,and you're blind to the ways of the poor. Likewise, if your poor, then so many poor surround you and you're blind to the ways of the rich.

But, the fast growing demographic for MJ use is indeed seniors and while a broken down, gross, old fart like me probably ain't the pic that they are looking for, I personally don't think pics of porn girls or the "young and beautiful" works either.

There are plenty of adverts for seniors...you know, with the senior couple in tennis shorts and brilliant white teeth and hair! hahaha When I see one of these I always chuckle at the thought that as soon as the shutter clicks, they bend over, grab their back, and groan just like the rest of us! haha

I don't think either @Chronic Pain or I suggested that vape manf don't ever target young demo in their adverts, but why never their fast growing demo? Why always a cliche of of a stoner?

Personally, I think the industry is young and a lot of the people in it are relative neophytes with many lessons to learn.

Ok, I notice a significant difference between the two atomizers. The replacement I bought from King's Pipe seems heftier. It absolutely gets hotter! Temp1 is fine now for a normal size dab.

See the pic below. The one on the right is the original, the one on the left is the replacement. Notice the ridges on the new one. Is this the new version?

@EconManOriginals ( shipped April/May-ish) had no ridges, the newer versions all have the ridges, usually have the Ti bucket that has an indented bottom as well.

Thanks. I'll check the bucket then and see if it is different. Glad to know the "difference" was not my imagination. Regardless, I find it works much better and the temp lights make more sense.
