Try vapornation, I can't see them not getting back to you. I'm sure they have a better way to contact the firefly when needed and I've always had a great experience with support buying from them.

Anything I'd say about the firefly 2 is already posted in forum many times... it's easier for me not to keep repeating it lol. Like @Baron23 said, thank you for your service!

@TimM Oh crap...I missed that you did buy through a big retailer (good catch, Flipz). Do definitely contact them. I have had great CS from Vapornation and I'm sure they will respond.

I've read through this entire thread and see extremely varying impressions. Here's mine (it's not good);. I've had the FF1 for over a year and a half. Still love it and still produces amazing clouds and flavor: 9/10. Got the FF2 yesterday, using it the way the manual says: nothing. Using it the way YouTube videos suggest: nothing. Using it the exact same way I use my FF1: nothing. I get tiny light wisps even on high, and instead of deep satisfying flavor I get a very light "green" taste on the first hit and then nothing after that. I've tried sipping, AND ripping, all methods of course and medium grind, etc. Also I notice the glow in my bowl goes away as soon as I start drawing. Regardless, considering I own the FF1 as well, and am using the same material, grind etc leaves no excuses for this thing performing so poorly. I literally had to put it in my car so it's nowhere near me, to avoid the temptation of wasting more material trying to convince myself it's user error, meanwhile looking over at my FF1 knowing damn well it performs AS ADVERTISED. Last note, tried concentrates aaaaand tiny wisps throughout.
Initial rating (for the unit I purchased): 2/10. One star each for (1)weight and (2) size reduction.

Cheers from me and my FF1

Yep...depending on where you post this info, be prepared for people to tell you its all user error and if you just perfected your technique then all would be fine.

Sorry its not working out for you.

Its really baffling...for post like this there is another one from somebody who just got their FF2 and it worked great right from the start. I can't tell what's real from what is Memorex (see vid below if this cultural reference is too ancient for you LOL).

If they tell me that then I'll seriously just ask for another FF1 as a replacement and laugh at their logic: I have both of your products and when I use them the old one outperforms the new one ! I'd understand/fall for that if I didn't own both but cmon ! Haha. We'll see what they say.

PS:. Just took some ff2 avb from last night (hi temp), put it in the ff1 and got a cloud that puts my current ff2 to shame. Either it's defective or the draw technique between the 2 is that different??

  • Baron23

You might just have a defective unit. It does happen.

I have a Grasshopper and I love it. There have been ton of failed/malfunctioned units come out, particularly at first. Mine is rock solid but still....I still love the vape for its function and performance but think there is a LOT of room for improvement in manf and test.

I feel sort of the same for FF2 but with a different spin....they don't seem to have as many failed/malfunctioning unit but a sizable % struggle to get it to function/perform ok. I've always wondered, and still don't have an answer, if this phenomenon is user error, different user expectations for a vape, too touchy and sensitive of a design, or results from units getting out with various degrees of manf quality.

I believe that from your FC post that you have a lot of vape experience. I would be interested in how this turns out for you as you try to work technique and work with FF about possible failed unit. So please do come back and let us know how this all works out.

    Best of luck.

Thanks Baron, appreciate it! I too have a (ss) grasshopper (with a titanium on the way) and I do like it a lot but the ff1 was still the flavor king out of all my portables and I had/have such high hopes (pun definitely intended) for the ff2! Here's a typical bowl I'd pack in the ff1, about .12, coarse and fluffy shred. The result is always amazing flavor and at least 3 big thick clouds before tapering off, and the bowl would be gummed up. With that same amount in the ff2 I get tiny (by tiny I mean teeny, check the video I linked. That was on the second draw which is supposed to be the biggest. On hi temp) wisps and the barely have any stickiness anywhere by the time I give up and transfer the contents of the bowl to my ff1 or grasshopper.

This is what the bowl looked like after that video. Stuff fell right out. Literally no residue.

    @thevapecritic Boy, Brandon....idk either.

Maybe Bud will come along and look at your load (nice looking herb, by the by) and video.

I don' have an FF2 so I really can't say.

I hope the FF2 becomes a real winner for all as I would love to own one if it functions as I would expect. But I'm still waiting to see as I just don't think its there yet for me.

    Cheers

Your only suppose to pack the herb up to the brim of the heating chamber. Looks like you got a bit too much in there so when the cover goes on, the airflow is almost completely restricted. Just going from experience when I first got my FF2.

The little to no residue is because it's not able to properly vape being it gets compressed when the lid goes on. Might need to break it up just a tad more but don't think that's what is causing the issue. Let me know and also have you tried the FF2 with the mouthpiece screen out or check to see if pieces of herb got stuck/pulled into it by mistake?

that wasnt packed flipz, just tossed in there with no tamping. Although I did say packed in my other post; habit I guess but definitely the incorrect term. That was only like .12g. Bud recommends .10-.15g. Like I said earlier, the same amount in my ff1 produces GREAT results. Hell the same exact contents from that pic went into the ff1 after the ff2 gave me wisps and the ff1 gave me 3 nice clouds. I've tried less, I've tried more grind, I've tried less grind, I've tried breaking up by hand... Even if I was over packing every time which I'm not (just desperate lol), wouldn't the bowl at least have some stickiness or residue ? Something must be wrong with my heater. I've always had this kind of luck so I'm not upset really haha. I'm the guy that recommends things to friends and when we all get said thing, mine is defective, arrives broken, etc

Vaping noob here but I'm glad to see I'm not going insane about the issues with the FF2. This was my first vape and it's discouraging me from getting another. I've gotten maybe 2 visible vapor clouds in the week I've had this and have wasted about 3 bowls of flower trying to figure it out. I've emailed FF twice about the shitty app and not being able to change the temp and they told me to wait for the update...which can be weeks or months away. So I basically have a 330$ paperweight. What's the best avenue for selling this? eBay or otherwise? Thanks.
  • Flipz

    I thought the app for iOS and android, haven't heard much about not being able to change the temp on either (could be wrong though lol). If you choose to sell it, find the right place for you - I never sold a vaporizer online nor did research into the best place for selling. I suppose eBay would be good (just make sure they didn't update their listing policy and your not in any violation). Sorry to hear about your issue. :-}

Are either of your units getting hot or glowing when using on the high setting? Are you taking a draw until the light goes out?

For me to get somewhat consistent results I've been sticking to the following for awhile:

I hand tear my material and fill it up like pictured above. I've found that for me to get decent vapor I have to push the material down tightly like the FF guy did in the video (this is tricky because too tight there's not enough airflow and not enough there's little to no vapor). I have to do this everytime I load it and stir it, if the material isn't all pressing down on the oven I get little to nothing. Lately I've only been using it on high heat setting. I also at the beginning of every draw I do a cigar like puff a few times w/o taking my lips off the mouthpiece and then take a slow long draw till the light goes out and actually 3-5 seconds past that and i do get a lung full of vapor but big rips mean it's got to be stirred to get another big rip (otherwise it just a mediocre next draw). But after about 5-6 decent draws thats it and it needs to be reloaded. I've noticed with my blue lid when I'm puffing on it when it's seated right I can feel the lid squeeze down with every puff. Also remove the screen to get better airflow, if you're getting material in your mouth it's because it's too fine and you're drawing too hard. Even when taking the long draws that I do I'm never gasping for air.

Hopefully that helps you guys get on the right track.

Just got my ff2 today. Charged battery. Tried it a few times little to no vapor. Now the bowl no longer glows when activating.

More experimentation after recharging. Went to courser grind as too fine a grind was getting sucked out of bowl clogging mouth piece. Also needed to make sure cover was seated properly to obtain tight seal. Used high setting on heat profile.
First hit little to no vape but tasty. Second hit nice little vape cloud.

I just got the unit as a birthday present...I'm coming from a Crafty and I'm not getting high at all. Tried loosely packing, large amounts, small amounts. I'm meticulous at cleaning around the seal. The flower inside the chamber isn't even browning. I set the temperature to high, and the bottom of the batch was burnt, while the rest of it isn't even browning. The green LED indicator is solid green the instant I activate the vape, while the chamber isn't even glowing.

I'm really disappointed, I want the gifter to receive a refund...$400+CAD of her hard earned money into a device that doesn't work. I was really excited after seeing all the good reviews too.

You should ask this fellow @Torch. He seems to be a rabid FF2 supporter who doesn't see any issues at all with the unit's design or production quality. Perhaps he will join and tell you what you are doing wrong as it couldn't be the fault of this immaculate vaporizer. :-} >:)

You know what they say, if at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

It's a high-octane (pun intended) convection heater. Download the app. Long, slow draw. Iterate. Enjoy.

    It's really not that hard.

It is amazing the number of people that cannot inhale properly to make the FF2 work properly. Oh wait. It is all fixed if you just download the app.
And on FC (you brought FC up in another post) there are many many unhappy customers or did you miss that?
I guess they need breathing lessons too.
That was YUGE sarcasm if you missed it.

I am in the same boat as most of the unhappy users. I had a MFLB before and it works great. I wanted to get something different so I picked up a FF2. Going to watch the 31 minute video, but all and I feel like I may have to go back to the glassware..

I've had FF2 for several months now. The first week took a little bit of training myself and trying different things. Then I really started to enjoy it. Within the last 2 weeks, however, I can't seem to get the thing to make a decent cloud, and I know it's not my technique, because I had the technique down pat. SOMETHING changed in the performance of the unit. I cleaned the thing from head to toe, mouthpiece, bowl, all areas around and involving the lid. I have to work my ever loving ass off to get 1 decent hit out of an entire packing, and that is not what I paid over $300 for. I called the company, and the representative told me that, yes, I could send it in, but there probably wasn't anything that could be "fixed" because I told him that I can feel the unit heating up and I could verify that the laser drilled holes were not clogged (the glowing bowl could be clearly seen through all the tiny holes upon activating the heat mechanism. I even updated to the latest software with the power tuning on full and level five high heat profile) as well as the fact it seems that the lid is sealing properly, at least visually. I've sipped, slowed my thinking, summoned all my Jedi powers to achieve the Zen state of mind seemingly required to get a decent hit out of this thing, all to no avail. The unit really cannot be taken apart to view the air intake into the bowl, but my theory is something is awry there. It is unbelievable to me how the average customer who has any problems with this device is told it is their own fault, or at least that is insinuated. The only thing I can think of is perhaps if there is glue used to seat the ring around the bowl, or glue under the bowl and before the air intake beneath the bowl, it is melting and covering up part of that intake, throwing the whole thing off. But again, I can't take it apart so I can't see what is wrong. The problem seemed to worsen after the updated app with the power setting on full, which seems to support my theory. With the power tuning all the way up and the unit on level 5 (I use dry herbs only) it starts to get uncomfortable to even hold the unit, so I know the heating mechanism is working. But something in the airflow isn't right, and for me at this point, I am 99.9% certain it is not about technique. I am truly sorry I purchased this vape at this point, and I was REALLY excited about it for a while, when it was working.

OK, follow up on my previous posting. Looks like it's the top that's failing, even though I couldn't or still cant see and visible problem with the seal. But, due to someone else posting about squeezing the top against the body while hitting, I did that, and it made a huge difference. It's working great again. I guess I'll try to get them to send me a new top.

My Firefly 2 actually stopped working altogether....it doesn't have any airflow at all. The flaw is in the device. I even tried using it without the lid.....yes......I made an air tight seal over the bowl using my lips and I couldn't get any airflow when sucking even with the heating element on....I tried for as long as I could until it was too hot to handle....laugh all you want, but I had to determine whether the airflow issue was with the mouth piece or within the device. It sucks! Stay away from Firefly 2!
